The questions we get asked most
Not at all. Many of our Explorers join having never been in Scouts. Everyone is welcome regardless of experience.
Yes. Every section of Scouting has been open to girls and boys since 2007, and Explorers longer than that. Triffid is mixed. More questions from people new to Scouting.
£15 per month during running months, which covers all meetings, activities, and uniform. If your young person is already in Scouts, Explorers is free during their transition. See our Moving Up page.
All our leaders are DBS-checked, safeguarding-trained, and follow Scout Association policies. We maintain appropriate adult-to-young-person ratios for all activities.
Yes. We're a licensed DofE centre. Bronze and Silver are just £33.50, Gold is £40. Learn more about DofE with us.
He went on his free trial grumbling and expecting to come back saying it was rubbish. Six months later he's properly into it and pushing me to drive him to camps.

What Explorer Scouts actually is
Explorer Scouts is the part of Scouting for young people aged 14 to 18, and you can join from 13½. It isn't a school club and it isn't Cubs. It's real outdoor adventure: you carry your own pack, cook your own food, and pick what the unit does each term.
We're a licensed Duke of Edinburgh centre, we meet every Monday from 7pm to 9pm at Ludlow Scout Hut on Station Drive, and there are 51 activity badges to go at if you want them. Subs are £15 a month once you've decided, and it's free while you're moving up from Scouts.

We're based in Ludlow, but we draw from across South Shropshire and over the Welsh and Herefordshire borders. If you're anywhere near these, you're near enough:
- Ludlow, Bromfield and Onibury
- Craven Arms, Clun and Bishop's Castle
- Bucknell, Leintwardine and Wigmore
- Knighton and Presteigne
- Cleobury Mortimer and the Clee villages
